What's on in Nairobi: Opera

Lucrezia Borgia by Donizetti.

Thursday, April 3rd 2008

3-16 Apr 2008. Conducted by Bruno Campanella, directed by Francesco Bellotto, with Fiorenza Cedolins, Michele Pertusi, José Bros, Kate Aldrich.
From 3 to 16 Apr 2008 the Teatro Regio in Turin will be showing Lucrezia Borgia by Donizetti, a story of intrigue about the notorious daughter of Pope Alexander VI, in which she accidentally poisons her own son, himself likely the product of an incestuous relationship with her brother. The storyline was enough to provoke intervention by contemporary censors and, as a result, productions in the 19th century were often altered from the original. The opera's very appeal lies in the combination of the story's murkiness with the noble love of a mother for her son, not to mention the outstanding music. The cast are all tried and true professionals. Fiorenza Cedolins stars as Lucrezia with Michele Pertusi as Don Alfonso, José Bros as Gennaro, Kate Aldrich as Maffio Orsini and Bruno Campanella directing. Paolo Di Nicola.
