Culture: Lola Kenya Screen.
Friday, March 30th 2007Organisers of Lola Kenya Screen, Africa’s only annual film festival dedicated entirely to children, are calling for Kenyan children to apply for places on the film selection committee, jury and animated film production workshop and as presenters and reporters for this year’s edition of the festival in Nairobi from 6-11 August. Eligible candidates must be aged 6-14 (10-18 for the film production workshop), knowledgeable about film and able to express themselves clearly in English and work to tight deadlines. Participants will be chosen on a first come, first served basis and applications must be submitted no later than 15 April. For the film production workshop priority will be given to children from disadvantaged communities in informal settlements such as Mathare and Kibera. The festival, in its second edition this year, will take place at the Goethe Institut and in selected venues in Kibera, Mathare and the Industrial Area. Jury members will judge and give awards to the films in the competition sections while reporters will file daily stories about the festival for publication in the Nairobi-based arts review artmatters.info.
