Transport: Flights to Nairobi get cheaper
Saturday, January 2nd 2010Two British airlines are offering discounted fares to Kenya for several months as long as they are booked before the end of January.
British Airways is offering £399 for return flights from London to Nairobi until 16 March and Virgin Atlantic £398 until 9 June for flights booked before 26 January. Kenyan Airways is currently offering return flights for £389 until the end of May. Return flights normally cost over £500.
2010 is expected to be a good year for Kenyan tourism, which hopes to benefit from the general interest generated by the World Cup football matches in South Africa. However in the first eight months of 2009 international arrivals were still 11 per cent down over the bumper 2007, before the post-election political violence in January 2008 seriously affected the tourist trade. In 2008 international arrivals were down to 1.2 million compared with 1.8 million in 2007.
